Интеркалирующие агенты, интеркаляты — молекулы, способные встраиваться (внедряться) между двумя комплементарными парами оснований в двухспиральной ДНК или РНК. Интеркаляция вызывает изменения в топологии ДНК (раскручивание), что ведет к мутациям и влияет на функции ДНК: такая ДНК не может быть транскрибирована или реплицирована. И. а. обычно являются мутагенами или канцерогенами, они часто используются в эксперименте для обнаружения ДНК и РНК путем окрашивания или разделения форм ДНК с различной топологией при центрифугировании в градиенте плотности (напр., этидиум бромид).Англо-русский толковый словарь генетических терминов > intercalation agents
